Reconstructing Eisenstein’s flat in VR - Making Of
At the time of his death in 1948 Sergei Eisenstein was considered a forbidden filmmaker. Therefore the state had no interest in preserving his heritage. His widow, Pera Atachevea, saved Sergei Eisenstein’s belongings. She moved them to her home and arranged them in a way similar to their display in the original apartment. The building on the grounds of the Mosfilm studio where Eisenstein had lived, the “house of film creators”, was destroyed in 1950ies. The apartments floor plans were lost. The only documentation of the original apartment was the film, which Pera Atacheva had shot on the day of his death. During our research project, in January 2021, a small miracle occurred: the original floor plans were found in an archive in Moscow.

The Virtual Theremin
The Theremin was the first electronic instrument.
Eisenstein meant to use the Theremin for a scene in the end of “The General Line”, which’s soundtrack remained unrealized.
Our interactive Theremin-VR-experience invites users to accompany the scene with this unusual instrument.
